The chance of rain has us moving to...Comet Country! Thank you to Clayton High School for agreeing to host Clayton's 150th Birthday Kick-off Party! We just didn't want to give up all of the many activities we had planned - so we're keeping the same time - Saturday, April 13, 2019 - 10:00 AM 3:00 PM but we're moving it two blocks down the street to Clayton High School!
Use the Robertson Street entrance near the beautiful baseball fields! We'll be packing all the fun into the school's two gyms and cafeteria - it's actually even more space than we were planning to have outdoors!
That means you can still enjoy a giant birthday cake, free ice cream, food trucks, two bands, a DJ, free kids inflatables, face-painting, circus performers, jugglers, coloring murals, a massive historic photo mosaic mural (post a pic with hashtag #clayton150 right now!), a volunteer fair and much more! The only thing we had to forego is the Deep River Brewing Company 150th beer - you'll just need to head a few blocks down Main Street to the brewery for a sip of Honeyversary 150th limited edition beer!
9AM-1PM Clayton Farm & Community Market 10th Anniversary Grand Opening in Horne Square! This event IS OUTDOORS - rain or shine!
EVENTS MOVED TO CLAYTON HIGH SCHOOL:
10AM Birthday Welcome by Clayton Mayor Jody McLeod and we cut the giant birthday cake! Come have a slice!
10-11:30AM Opening Band: Big Bang Boom - a live, high-energy show that will make it hard for both parents and children to stay in their seats! T hey combine their clever, hard-rockin’ funky original music with dynamic covers with a twist to rock both adults and kids. We can’t wait for this 3-piece power pop band, made up of talented artists and long-time musicians Chuck Folds (rock star Ben Folds’ younger brother), Steve Willard, and Eddie Walker.
10AM -3PM Art Mural - This lasting mosaic will be created LIVE and in real-time during the birthday celebration with the help of a company that utilizes high-definition printers and mosaic-blending technology. The best part - the creation involves families and friends sharing selfies/event photos, watching them print out on-site and then stepping back to see them meld together to form a larger community mosaic image! Carolina Comfort Air is the generous sponsor who will help our guests snap photos, tag their experiences on Instagram or Twitter (or text), then help print photos on-site to then piece together to reveal a larger image. The long-lasting piece of artwork will be permanently displayed in Town for the public to enjoy for years to come! Participants can return with excitement to see themselves and show family and friends how their likeness blended with their fellow hometown neighbors to create a collaborative work of art. Use hashtag #clayton150 now and start posting your photos to Instagram and Twitter!
10AM -3PM Family Fun with FREE inflatables, face-painting, games, and more!
10AM -3PM Collaborative Coloring Mural - Join us to create a life-size coloring book page with a colorful Clayton scene! If you’re a kid, you’ll quickly grab your favorite color to paint on a scale they’ve never seen before! For adults, it will bring a little of your childhood back! Kids-R-Kids jumped at the chance to sponsor this event because it perfectly amplifies the theme of our Sesquicentennial - bringing the community together to interact in a wholesome, warm, creative way to collaborate in a rainbow of colors!
10AM -3PM Clayton Volunteer Fair, organized by Clayton Rotary Club, bringing together all of the many organizations and groups who work to make Clayton a better place. Whether you’ve just moved here or you’ve lived in the area all your life, we’re always hearing people ask, “How do I get involved? Who’s doing good things in Clayton?” This fair will be a way for you to find out! Maybe you love animals, maybe you have a soft spot for the elderly, or maybe you have building skills you want to put to work. We’re hoping this volunteer fair, organized by the Clayton Rotary, will help us create a permanent database of all the incredible efforts underway in Clayton. It’s working together as a community that’s made so many great things happen in Clayton.

1:30 - 3PM Closing Band: Rubberband - They don’t wear matching red suits or choreograph dance steps, but they play great music with an edge and attitude. These guys cut their teeth playing original music in college clubs, an atmosphere where being sincere, and being yourself, are vital for success. We think Clayton is about being authentic too! They’ll be playing the sounds of R&B, Soul, Funk, Rock, Disco, Reggae, and Hip Hop. They mix songs, genres, grooves, beats, and guitar riffs-and deliver it with the energy and vibe of a live band.
